AS Summer 2020 winds down, one looks back at the many regularly scheduled events that did not occur this year: Warm-Ups at MoMA PS1; Live At The Gantries, Taste of LIC, Evening Movies At The Oval, etc.

And yet we did get Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks in modified form, and regular comedy and music performances in the Plaxall Parking Lot on Sundays, as well as an abundance of outdoor workouts, both group and solo, in lieu of the gym, and a full relaxation of the open container law. While the latter may bring to mind other previously enforced statutes like late night personal fireworks and other shenanigans, overall it was a very small number of scofflaws and most of it was curtailed by the end of July. Otherwise the big crowds that came to the waterfront were there primarily to chillax and people-watch outdoors. By and large social-distancing was maintained and everyone was very courteous about it. I’d even go so far to say that there was a air of bonhomie and togetherness among disparate groups, possibly fostered by the aforementioned relaxation of open-containers.

//OH yeah, it was a hot summer here in LIC too, possibly the hottest since these towers first started being constructed, and made worse by all the pools being closed. Also for those who flew the coop for this summer the Citi tower is no more. Well the namesake anyway is gone from the LIC skyline and been replaced by “Altice” on all four sides.
