bird is the word

BLEAK winter is near, the public schools have shut down, and the pandemic is in an upswing – the latter of which is keeping many people from getting together with relatives. I’ve got my Swanson Turkey TV Dinner all ready to go. Will take it out of the freezer an hour before cooking to give it that real turkey taste. No friends this year, but still wearing my mask between sips. But I’m looking at the bright side and thankful that I have reliable Thanksgiving mainstays the Lions and Cowboys as accompaniment.

Yes, there was a group assault on a jogger at the early hour of 6:30pm, that happened to be an off-duty police officer. Varying reports gave the location as 53rd Ave and Vernon and 51st Ave and Vernon, seemingly nearby but in reality separated by a massive railyard. I think 53rd seems more accurate, which means it took place in a desolate area. Scary, but avoidable if need be. Either way, immediately after the news came out I was barraged with news of several similar attacks that occurred recently in Hunters Point, all of which seemed very plausible, and one that spilled over into a Center Boulevard lobby that I was able to confirm.

All frightening yes, but I’m looking on the bright side. Specifically an uplifting article by Steve Cuozzo in The New York Post about all the big real estate projects due to be completed in 2021. The connection to LIC is that many of them are centered around the Grand Central corridor and then extend along 42nd Street to the western end of the 7-line – all vital commuting locations for many living here. Anyone who’s ventured into this area of midtown recently knows how desolate it is compared to a typical weekday a year ago. Who knew real estate could be so uplifting, but the thought of walking around midtown marveling at these massive new projects brings the relief that rejuvenation is near. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Why America Is Going Clubbing“From my perch in Queens, N.Y., I can see as much. Since the pandemic began, the Saturday morning wait to enter the Long Island City Costco has surpassed LaGuardia Airport’s Delta terminal as the borough’s longest line. And about a mile to the southeast of that store, a new BJ’s is rising fast with an opening date expected early next year. That store—positioned between a high-volume Food Bazaar on one side and a Stop & Shop on the other—should be a nutritious alternative snack”
